I am a passionate hobby grower completely in love with dahlias. Every tuber sold here comes from my personal garden. To ensure the highest quality and prevent the spread of disease, I utilize strict sanitization practices, including a 10% bleach soak for all my cutting tools.
Follow these essential tips to ensure your dahlias thrive all summer long:
Plant in full sun (6-8 hours daily) after the last frost when soil is at least 60°F. Ensure the soil is well-draining to prevent tuber rot.
Dig a hole 4-6 inches deep. Place the tuber horizontally with the eye facing up. Do not water immediately after planting until green shoots appear.
Pinch the center stem when the plant reaches 12 inches tall to encourage branching. Stake tall varieties early to prevent them from snapping under the weight of the blooms.
Regularly snip off spent blooms. This redirects the plant's energy into producing more beautiful flowers all season long.
Dahlias are tender. After the first frost, carefully dig up the tubers, gently wash them, and let them dry. Store them in a dark location between 40°F and 50°F to keep them perfectly dormant over winter.
